SOPA, PIPA, and the DEATH OF MEGAVIDEO
If none of you have been up to date with the recent current events, then you probably aren't aware of the Cyber War that has been going on.

Recently, the U.S. government proposed two bills: SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), which was proposed by the Senate, and PIPA (Protect IP Act). Fortunately for online users, this bill has not passed into a law YET.

However, there is some bad news. The founders of Megavideo and Megaupload have been arrested due to them violating copyright and infringement laws AND making a major profit off of the materials.

This not only interfered with all anime viewers who relied on megavideo for many movies from overseas, but we're in fear that this will be the main ticket for them to push the bill further. That means anyone who is responsible for piracy in any way is subject to be fined or arrested. To me, this could mean the end of internet, and how people entertain themselves.

The main issue is the Entertainment industry. Record labels and Movie industries have this twisted belief that if they stop piracy people will buy their goods. But to me, the damage is done. Once advanced technology has been introduced, there is no way of going back. We are living in the 21st Century. If they want people to support them, they need to BE what Megavideo was to millions and that was online movies and music. They need to supply us with SUBBED animes that we can watch over a website for a small subscription fee. We can't and will not return to "hard copies". We are five steps ahead of these companies, and they need to adapt to OUR demands, not US adapt to theirs. The entertainment industry is too UNIMPORTANT of an industry for them to try to FORCE us to buy their goods. How about they do what every other business does and try to PERSUADE us to buy their good with excellent advertising and quality music? Then they wouldn't have to worry about pirates who supply better services for people illegally. I feel if the government is going to take away one of our major websites, the government needs to put the money in to SUPPLEMENT for it.

The government wants to blame piracy for the reason so many are out of jobs. BLAME the whole INTERNET. Ordering tickets online, and booking travel online put TRAVEL AGENTS out of business. Shopping online has made many stores go out of business, like BORDERS. Itunes put record and music stores out of business. Many other businesses from the past have gone out, like the steel mills...because we shipped them overseas. The thing is they ALL will g out of business. The government's job is to find a way to supplement for the job loss.

This all reminds me of the Prohibition movement. A bunch of housewives and Temperance movers aka Christians all banded together to ban alcohol or portions of it because it created "crimes". Well, when they banned alcohol and liquor, it created MORE crime and even bloodshed. Thank the pearls of life the presidency was awarded to one of the best presidents ever, FDR, who uplifted that ban, a fan of drinking himself! We need a president like that Though FDR wasn't popular among the Senate or House, as he overrode many of their votes, and though he barely won by a landslide, he was one of the most POPULAR AND FAVORED PRESIDENTS OF ALL TIME!

So, I guess we can just wait and see. In the meantime, I WILL NOT be posting ANY Megavideo videos (obviously I can't anyway), and will try not to post any websites that support their vids because I don't want to be "sued". >.<

P.S. on second note, I just saw that the CHINESE just bought out Megavideo Way to go America. You let China win that profit.
